Baseball Recap: Make It Three in a Row for Clarke Central

Clarke Central had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They never let the Cedar Shoals Jaguars get on the board and left with a 16-0 victory. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 16-0 on March 3rd.

Oliver Siegmund made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two doubles and one RBI. That's the most doubles he has posted since back in February.

In other pitching news, Diego Martinez-Gamero looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). He has become a key player for Clarke Central: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 9-10 otherwise.

Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Colton Eberhard, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most hits he has posted since March 3rd.

Clarke Central always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .514. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cedar Shoals only posted an OBP of .278.

The win got Clarke Central back to even at 11-11. As for Cedar Shoals, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-11.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Clarke Central will venture away from home to face off against Monroe Area at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Cedar Shoals, they will head out to take on Rockdale County at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
