It was a good run, but the Esperanza Aztecs unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Saturday. They were the victim of a rough 80-57 defeat at the hands of Owyhee. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Several Aztecs players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lacie Miyatake, who scored 19 points. Those 19 points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Madilyn Lam, who scored 14 points along with four steals.
Esperanza struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Esperanza's loss dropped their record down to 12-2. As for Owyhee, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six games, which provided a nice bump to their 8-5 record this season.
Esperanza and Villa Park will face off at 5:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Villa Park is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. Owyhee and Eagle will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 3rd without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Idaho (Eagle is ranked tenth, while Owyhee is ranked 11th).
