They were just one part of a punishing run game: Troy was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 246 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 189 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.
Troy didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The team can thank two different players for their defensive prowess: Andrew Green and Noah Torosian, who each picked up one interception apiece.
Meanwhile, Orange didn't have too much trouble with Laguna Beach on Friday as they won 24-9.
Orange found their leader in sophomore Star Thomas, who threw for 391 yards and three TDs, and also rushed for 61 yards. Those 391 passing yards set a new season-high mark for Thomas. Orange's leading receiver Adam Maldonado was Thomas' top target yet again, picking up 138 receiving yards and one touchdown.
Orange's defense made their presence known, laying out Jack Hurst seven times. Sebastian Castro refused to say out of the backfield, picking up four sacks all by himself. Anthony Randle was another major factor on D, picking up three sacks and making seven total tackles (5.0 for loss).
Troy's record now sits at 9-1. As for Orange, their record is now 6-4.
The upcoming game will be a clash of competing strengths. Troy has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 261.8 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Orange has preferred to attack from the air: they average 266.4 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
