The Dilley Wolves will take on the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Dilley has given up an average of 25.7 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
The home team had won the previous three meetings between Dilley and Karnes City, and Karnes City kept the tradition alive. The Wolves had to suffer through a 41-14 loss at the hands of the Badgers. The Wolves were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 27-0.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Nixon-Smiley, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took their contest on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-0 victory over Young Men's Leadership Academy. The game marked the Mustangs' most dominant win of the season.
Nixon-Smiley's win came from a few key players Dilley will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Eric Rodriguez, who rushed for 84 yards and a pair of scores on only ten carries, and also threw for 76 yards and one touchdown. Those 84 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Joe White was another key player, gaining 82 total yards and two touchdowns.
Nixon-Smiley was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 212 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 175 rushing yards in three consecutive matchups.
Special teams was a major factor in the game for Nixon-Smiley, racking up 14 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of White, who ran a punt back for a touchdown.
Dilley's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 3-4. As for Nixon-Smiley, their victory bumped their record up to 5-2.
