The Monrovia Wildcats will venture away from home to square off against the Marshall Eagles at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Monrovia is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Monrovia was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last matchup, but they sure didn't let that happen against Righetti on Thursday. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Warriors with a sharp 11-3 victory. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.
Monrovia gave James Quesenbery the start and clearly made the right call: he struck out seven batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits (and not a single walk). The Wildcats are undefeated when Quesenbery allows one or fewer earned runs, but 1-2 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Troy Grise, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two stolen bases, and three runs. He continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Kaleb Ellison, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
Monrovia kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They lost 14-5 to Righetti.
Eli Macias made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with one triple and two RBI. That triple marked the first that he has hit this season.
Monrovia's record now sits at 4-2. As for Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 1-3.
Marshall's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Monrovia hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .388. It's a different story for Marshall, though, as they've only averaged .156. Will they be able to contain Monrovia's hitters?
Everything went Monrovia's way against Marshall in their previous meeting back in February of 2022, as Monrovia made off with an 8-2 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Wildcats since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
