Central is 0-8 against San Luis since March of 2017 but things could change on Friday. The Spartans will venture away from home to challenge the Sidewinders at 3:45 p.m. Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.
Central came out on top against Somerton on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive nine-run fourth inning. The Spartans walked away with an 11-6 victory over the Toros.
Sebastian Ojeda and Christopher Curiel did most of the damage at the plate: Ojeda went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base, while Curiel went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Ojeda has posted since back in April of 2025. Angel Carrillo also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.
Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .312 or higher in 14 consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, San Luis came up short against Imperial on Wednesday and fell 12-9. The pitching woes were uncharacteristic for the Sidewinders, who until this matchup were averaging 3.2 runs allowed.
Rodolfo Acosta made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Carlos Gonzales, who got on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base and one run.
Central is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.8 runs over those games. As for San Luis, their defeat dropped their record down to 7-2-1.
Both Central and San Luis just can't seem to miss. The Spartans have been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.9 hits per game. However, it's not like San Luis struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Central suffered a grim 9-0 defeat to San Luis in their previous matchup back in February of 2024. Can the Spartans avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
