The Santa Paula Cardinals came tearing into Monday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 38 points) and they left with even more momentum. They enjoyed a cozy 64-48 win over Carpinteria. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Santa Paula also won the last time the pair played back in January.
Santa Paula's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Aryanna Lopez, who scored 22 points along with five rebounds. Lopez is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 16 or more in the last eight games she's played. Jalynn Rico was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and six rebounds.
Despite the loss, Carpinteria still got an impressive performance from Jamaica Cook, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and 12 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cook has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Armarisse Camargo, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds.
Santa Paula pushed their record up to 18-8 with that win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.8 points per game. As for Carpinteria, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 11-8.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Santa Paula will take on the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Hueneme comes in still looking for their first win of the season. As for Carpinteria, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome the Flashes at 7:00 p.m. on January 31st. Fillmore comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 22 points in their last five games, a trend the squad is of course eager to reverse.
