Basketball Recap: Lizzy Mroz's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Castle View over Mountain Vista

After flying high against Heritage last Tuesday, Castle View came back down to earth. The Castle View Sabercats received a blow on Friday as they fell 66-50 to the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles. The Sabercats were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Golden Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in January of 2024.

Several Sabercats players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Lizzy Mroz, who almost dropped a double-double on 18 points and nine rebounds. The dominant performance gave Mroz a new career-high in points. Kenzie Tosch was another key player, going 5 for 10 en route to 16 points in addition to five boards and four steals.

It was another big night for Kennedy Spellman, who dropped a double-double on 30 points and 11 rebounds for Mountain Vista. That makes it three consecutive games in which Spellman has scored at least a third of Mountain Vista's points. Another player making a difference was Ariana Akey, who posted nine points along with seven boards and four steals.

Castle View has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-11 record this season. As for Mountain Vista, they pushed their record up to 11-4 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Castle View has already played their next game, a 38-16 loss against ThunderRidge on the 28th. As for Mountain Vista, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 67-52 defeat against Highlands Ranch on the 28th.
