The Elizabeth Cardinals were the 48-37 winner over the Discovery Canyon Thunder when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Elizabeth was beaten by Discovery Canyon 60-27 on Friday. Elizabeth has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Elizabeth's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Arianna Toaipa, who scored nine points, and Meghan Benkendorf who scored three points.
Discovery Canyon's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Taylor Mccann, who scored eight points along with six rebounds and four steals. Those six rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Addison Hulse, who scored nine points along with four steals.
Elizabeth has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-4 record this season. As for Discovery Canyon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 5-6.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Elizabeth will take on Palmer Ridge at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Discovery Canyon, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pueblo Central at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
