Berthoud is a perfect 10-0 against Thompson Valley since August of 2017 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Spartans will challenge the Eagles at 4:00 p.m. One thing working in Berthoud's favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
On Monday, Berthoud beat Northridge 10-7. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Grizzlies: they've now won seven in a row.
The team relied heavily on Madelyn Kuntz, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits she has posted since September 2nd. Another player making a difference was Alana Lukensow, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and two RBI.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Berthoud kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in four consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Thompson Valley, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They skirted past Timnath 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since August 22nd.
Not much got past Mia Villafranca, who gave up just two hits and racked up eight Ks to keep Timnath off the board. Villafranca has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Ella Raabe was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Berthoud's record now sits at 11-8. As for Thompson Valley, their record is now 7-9.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Berthoud has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .479. However, it's not like Thompson Valley struggles in that department as they've averaged .445. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Berthoud took their victory against Thompson Valley in their previous meeting on September 9th by a conclusive 15-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
