The Smithfield Sentinels are taking a road trip to take on the South Kingstown Rebels at 4:45 p.m. on Friday. Smithfield will be looking to extend their current five-game winning streak.
Smithfield is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Rhode Island's top teams: Portsmouth, who was ranked 22nd at the time (Smithfield was ranked tenth). The Sentinels blew past the Patriots 10-4 on Wednesday. The result was nothing new for the Sentinels, who have now won five contests by six runs or more so far this season.

The team relied heavily on Sean Dwyer, who went 3-for-5 with two triples, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April. Gio Esposito was another key player, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Meanwhile, South Kingstown was able to grind out a solid win over Pilgrim on Wednesday, taking the game 6-1.
Quinn Matos spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered a run (which was unearned) on three hits.
At the plate, Nick Vellone was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. Jordan Chaloux also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Smithfield's record is now 7-4. As for South Kingstown, their record now sits at 10-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Smithfield has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like South Kingstown struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Smithfield might still be hurting after the 8-0 defeat they got from South Kingstown in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Can the Sentinels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
