The Mercedes Tigers were the 39-22 winner over the Edcouch-Elsa Yellowjackets when they last played one another back in October of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Mercedes fell 28-19 to Edcouch-Elsa on Friday. Mercedes just can't catch a break and has now endured three losses in a row.
Edcouch-Elsa got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Elijah Trevino out in front who rushed for 115 yards and a touchdown on only 11 carries, and also threw for 145 yards and two touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes. Jayreed Amaya was in the mix as well, providing Edcouch-Elsa with two touchdowns.
Mercedes' defeat was their fifth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 14.0 points per game. As for Edcouch-Elsa, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 4-5.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Mercedes will face off against Porter at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Porter comes in on a streak of failing to score more than seven points in their last five games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse. As for Edcouch-Elsa, they will head out on the road to face off against Valley View at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
