Basketball Recap: Warren Easton Falls Despite Big Games from Amiyah Smith and Jalyn Newman

Warren Easton was the 46-44 winner over Destrehan when they last played one another back in December of 2021, but their luck changed this time around. The Warren Easton Fighting Eagles took a 52-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Destrehan Wildcats. While losing is never fun, the Fighting Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 89th, while the Wildcats are ranked 26th).

Despite the defeat, Warren Easton had strong showings from Jalyn Newman, who posted 19 points, and Amiyah Smith, who went 5 of 7 on her way to 12 points. The dominant performance also gave Smith a new career-high in rebounds (four). Another player making a difference was Cade Alphonse, who had six points.

Even though they lost, Warren Easton was working as a unit and finished the game with 11 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Warren Easton now has a losing record at 11-12. As for Destrehan, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-7.

Warren Easton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 35-28 loss against Phoenix on the 8th. As for Destrehan, they will square off against St. Katharine Drexel at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
