The Biglerville Canners lost against the Susquenita Blackhawks back in January of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Monday. Biglerville was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 53-52 to Susquenita. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Biglerville in their matchups with Susquenita: they've now lost six in a row.
Claire Roberts and Kierney Weigle certainly did their best on Monday to try and avoid the loss. Roberts scored 19 points along with five steals, while Weigle dropped a double-double on 17 points and 13 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Weigle has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Eva Hollabaugh, who scored seven points along with three steals.
Susquenita's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Leah Allewelt, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 13 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Kaydon Brandt, who scored 15 points along with three steals.
Biglerville's loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-8. As for Susquenita, their victory bumped their record up to 9-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Biglerville won't have much time to rest: their next match is against York County Tech at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Hopefully York County Tech focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 last Wednesday. As for Susquenita, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against Line Mountain at 7:30 p.m. on January 23rd. Line Mountain is coming into the game on a three-game losing streak.
