The Slippery Rock Rockets couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a rough 62-23 loss at the hands of Mercyhurst Prep. Slippery Rock has struggled against Mercyhurst Prep recently, as their matchup on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Slippery Rock's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Brielle Jordan, who scored 7 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Belle Miller, who scored 3 points along with 7 rebounds.
Slippery Rock's defeat dropped their record down to 0-1. As for Mercyhurst Prep, their victory bumped their record up to 1-0.
Slippery Rock will head out on the road to face off against Cambridge Springs at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they will square off against Mars at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Mars focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
