El Segundo has won six straight games at home (dating back to last season), while West has won six straight on the road also dating back to last season, but those streaks won't matter much on Thursday. The El Segundo Eagles will welcome the West Warriors at 3:15 p.m. El Segundo is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.
El Segundo's tournament run continued when they took on Carson on Tuesday. El Segundo sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over Carson. The Eagles haven't had any issues with the Colts recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.
Jake Collins spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on one hit and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, El Segundo saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaiden Rico, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but West ultimately got the result they hoped for on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-5 win over Wiseburn- Da Vinci.
John Guilfoyle Jr. looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
On the hitting side, Reef Sharman was incredible, firing off two home runs and six RBI while going 2-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Joey Kim, who scored a run and stole two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
El Segundo's victory bumped their record up to 4-0. As for West, their win bumped their record up to 3-0.
West's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: El Segundo hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .324. It's a different story for West, though, as they've only averaged .183. Will they be able to contain El Segundo's hitters?
El Segundo came up short against West when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 10-5. Can El Segundo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
