Waterville extended their losing streak to five on Monday, dropping them down to 4-8. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 5-3 heartbreaker at the hands of the Oceanside Mariners. The Panthers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Mariners apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Derek Couture put in work no matter where he played. He tossed 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one stolen base.
In other batting news, Felix Chapa made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Milo Taylor also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
As for Oceanside, their victory ended a five-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win they have posted against Waterville since April 29, 2023.
Like Waterville, Oceanside also got a great game from a two-way player: Braeden Toothaker. On the mound, he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Toothaker also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Oceanside is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 1-6 otherwise. Toothaker was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2025.
In other batting news, Silas White was excellent, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs and one stolen base. Brady Phillip was another key player, going 1-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Waterville will challenge Belfast at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oceanside, they will square off against Medomak Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.27 runs per game on average), something the Mariners will no doubt try to take advantage of.
