Baseball Recap: Lafayette Makes It Five in a Row on the Road

Lafayette never got on the board in their matchup last Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Branford on Thursday. They were the clear victor by a 17-0 margin over the Branford Buccaneers. The Hornets haven't had any issues with the Buccaneers recently, as the game was their eighth consecutive win against them.

Garrett Taylor was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those no hits gave him a new career-low. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March of 2024.

In other batting news, Hyatt Richardson was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in runs. Another player making a difference was Trevor Byrd, who scored two runs and stole two bases while going 1-for-2.

Lafayette always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .550. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Branford only posted an OBP of .263.

Lafayette's victory was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 1-1. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Branford, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2-1.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Lafayette will face off against Madison County at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Branford, they will take on Crescent City at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
