Basketball Recap: Aptos Comes Up Short

It was a good run, but Aptos unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Thursday. They had to suffer through a 61-29 loss at the hands of the Half Moon Bay Cougars. While losing is never fun, the Mariners can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 349th, while the Cougars are ranked 90th).

Despite the defeat, Aptos saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eliya Chavez posted 11 points and five boards.

Aptos' loss dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Half Moon Bay, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Aptos and Summit Shasta will round out the year against one another at at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Half Moon Bay, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Aragon at 6:00 p.m. on January 8, 2025. One thing working in Half Moon Bay's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last four games.
