Iroquois is on a five-game streak of home losses, Northwestern a 13-game streak of away losses (dating back to last season), but someone's luck is about to change. The Iroquois Braves will take on the Northwestern Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the pair suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this match.
Last Friday, Iroquois came up short against Mercyhurst Prep and fell 55-44. While losing is never fun, Iroquois can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 487th, while Mercyhurst Prep is ranked 221st).
Despite the defeat, Iroquois saw an underclassman step up: Kellen Burroughs dropped a double-double on 21 points and 11 rebounds. Devin Brink was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Northwestern was beaten by Girard 67-27 on Friday. Northwestern has struggled against Girard recently, as their match on Friday was their fourth consecutive lost matchup.
Iroquois has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-10 record this season. As for Northwestern, their loss dropped their record down to 0-18.
Iroquois was able to grind out a solid win over Northwestern when the teams last played back in January, winning 56-45. Will Iroquois repeat their success, or does Northwestern have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
