Football Recap: Taft Skates Past Monroe with Ease

Taft had to skate by with only a three-point margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 42-point drubbing they dealt Monroe on Thursday. The Toreadors breezed past the Vikings to the tune of 42-0. The Toreadors have beaten the Vikings the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Vikings has come to flipping the script.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Taft to victory, but perhaps none more so than Nathan Swinson, who threw for 239 yards and four touchdowns on only 15 passes. Swinson is on a roll when it comes to passing touchdowns, as he's now passed for three or more in each of the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Sammy Perry was another key receiver, picking up 119 receiving yards and a pair of scores.

Taft didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Zsavier Johnson and Darius Kirabo. Taft received some extra help from Adam Ohayon, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.

Taft's win bumped their record up to 2-0. As for Monroe, their defeat was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coming up, Taft will be playing at home against Arleta at 7:00 p.m. on September 5. As for Monroe, they will venture away from home to face off against Belmont at 7:00 p.m. on September 5.
