Simon Tech is 0-3 against Animo Watts since February of 2016 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Simon Tech Huskies will head out on the road to challenge the Animo Watts Warriors at 5:30 p.m. Simon Tech comes in on a streak of failing to score more than five points in their last six games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
Last Thursday, Simon Tech took a serious blow against WISH Academy, falling 77-5. Simon Tech was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 47-0.
They got a good chunk of their points from the dynamic duo of
Zusly Alvarado and
Grace Martinez, who each put up two points.
Michele Grijalva held things down on the boards with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Animo Watts stacked a sixth blowout win onto their ever-increasing hoard on Thursday. They blew past Animo Venice 48-4 on the road. The victory was just what Animo Watts needed coming off of a 53-18 loss in their prior match.
Animo Watts got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Trisha Hernandez out in front who scored 18 points along with six rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which Hernandez has scored at least a third of Animo Watts' points. The team also got some help courtesy of Mariana Liddell, who scored eight points along with eight steals and six rebounds.
Simon Tech's defeat dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Animo Watts, their victory bumped their record up to 6-1.
This contest is one where the number of possessions is likely to be a big factor: Simon Tech have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 25.6 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Animo Watts struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 37.3 rebounds per game. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Simon Tech took a serious blow against Animo Watts when the teams last played back in December of 2023, falling 83-4. The game was all but decided by halftime, at which point Simon Tech was down 55-2.
