Basketball Recap: Jurnee Cox's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Pittsburg over James Logan

After flying high against Skyline last Wednesday, Pittsburg came back down to earth. The Pittsburg Pirates received a blow on Friday as they fell 62-43 to the James Logan Colts. The defeat continues a trend for the Pirates in their matchups with the Colts: they've now lost three in a row.

Pittsburg lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jurnee Cox, who went 6 of 13 en route to 13 points and three steals. That's the most points Cox has posted since back in December of 2023. The team also got some help courtesy of Yariah Asidanya, who posted eight points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.

James Logan was led to victory by Tyliyah Miller and Iwa Lealao. Miller dropped a double-double on 16 points and 15 boards, while Lealao went 6 of 12 on her way to 19 points and four steals. Lealao has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Amelia Pole was another key player, going 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points and five boards.

Pittsburg's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for James Logan, their victory was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-0.

Pittsburg wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 47-44 defeat against Liberty on the 10th. As for James Logan, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 52-30 win against Casa Grande on the 7th.
