Palmyra is 0-10 against Elmwood-Murdock since January of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Palmyra Panthers on the road again and play against the Elmwood-Murdock Knights at 6:00 p.m. on January 25th. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Tuesday, Palmyra earned a 41-30 victory over Wilber-Clatonia. Given Palmyra's advantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 116th, while Wilber-Clatonia is ranked 237th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Elmwood-Murdock came tearing into Tuesday's match with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 24.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They walked away with a 42-34 victory over Freeman.
Tatum Backemeyer was her usual excellent self, scoring 21 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. She has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last five times she's played. Delaney "laney" Frahm was another key contributor, scoring five points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Palmyra's victory bumped their record up to 9-4. As for Elmwood-Murdock, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-1.
Palmyra was taken down by Elmwood-Murdock 60-23 when the teams last played back in January of 2023. The contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Palmyra was down 35-14.
