The Meyersdale Red Raiders struggled with offensive rebounds on Thursday (the Claysburg-Kimmel Bulldogs had ten more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Meyersdale was the victim of a rough 53-33 loss at the hands of Claysburg-Kimmel. Meyersdale was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-10.
Meyersdale lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Carter Vogt, who scored nine points along with three steals. Another player making a difference was Matthew Hainsworth, who scored five points along with eight rebounds.
Leading Claysburg-Kimmel to victory were Brayden Haney and Elias Ritchey. Haney scored 13 points along with four steals, while Ritchey scored 16 points along with five rebounds and three steals. The game was Haney's fourth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Cory Walter, who scored three points along with 13 rebounds and five blocks.
This is the second loss in a row for Meyersdale and nudges their season record down to 1-11. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meyersdale will take on Salisbury Elk Lick at 6:00 p.m. on January 5th. Salisbury Elk Lick and Meyersdale are at an even 5-5 over their past ten head-to-heads. As for Claysburg-Kimmel, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Everett at 7:30 p.m. Everett will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
