The Oak Park-River Forest Huskies are taking a road trip to face off against the Leyden Eagles at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The last three games Oak Park-River Forest has played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.
On Wednesday, Oak Park-River Forest sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with an 8-6 victory over Lockport. That's two games straight that the Huskies have won by exactly two runs.
The team relied heavily on Liam Brown, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Oak Park-River Forest lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Leyden, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Saturday. They had just enough and edged out Maine West 8-6.
Jacob Ganir made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run.
In other pitching news, Christopher Matz looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one walk any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Sammy Calderon was excellent, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base.
Leyden's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-2. As for Oak Park-River Forest, their record is now 4-2.
Oak Park-River Forest couldn't quite finish off Leyden when the teams last played back in May of 2025 and fell 5-3. Can the Huskies avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
