Mark Twain is 1-9 against Clopton since September of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Tigers will head out on the road to challenge the Hawks at 5:00 p.m. Mark Twain knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past three contests -- so hopefully Clopton likes a good challenge.
Mark Twain came out on top against Community on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive six-run first inning. The Tigers blew past the Trojans 10-4. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won four games by six runs or more so far this season.
Maylie Boling made a splash no matter where she played. She pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Boling was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run. Those two RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Mark Twain got a massive performance out of Ella Moss, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Moss has posted since back in September of 2024. Another player making a difference was Jordan Wilkinson, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Mark Twain was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .387. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .387 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, it was a Battle of the Birds when Clopton took on Silex on Thursday. The Hawks came up short against the Owls, falling 14-8.
Josi Magruder and Calleigh Noah stepped up to the plate in a big way. Magruder went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one run, while Noah went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Mark Twain is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Clopton, they now have a losing record of 4-5.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. Mark Twain has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.1 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Clopton struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 4.6 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Mark Twain might still be hurting after the 10-0 loss they got from Clopton in their previous matchup back in October of 2024. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
