Basketball Game Preview: Oxnard Yellowjackets vs. Dos Pueblos Chargers

The Oxnard Yellowjackets will head out to square off against the Dos Pueblos Chargers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. One thing working in Oxnard's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matchups.

Last Saturday, everything came up roses for Oxnard against Rio Mesa as the squad secured a 70-29 win. Given the Yellowjackets' advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 91st, while the Spartans are ranked 611th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Oxnard got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kayla Lumas out in front who went 6 for 10 on her way to 16 points in addition to five assists and four steals. The contest was Lumas' sixth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Salgado, who went 5 of 12 en route to 13 points and six rebounds.

Lumas wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Oxnard was working as a unit and finished the game with 22 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Meanwhile, Dos Pueblos had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 18 points) and they went ahead and made it five on Saturday. They enjoyed a cozy 76-60 win over the Tritons.

Dos Pueblos is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games, which provided a massive bump to their 10-8 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.1 points per game. As for Oxnard, their victory was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-5.

Oxnard strolled past Dos Pueblos in their previous meeting back in January of 2024 by a score of 65-50. Does Oxnard have another victory up their sleeve, or will Dos Pueblos turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
