Desten Torrence was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in hits. Another player making a difference was Tristen Smith, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.
Fairfield always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Foothill only posted an OBP of .273.
Meanwhile, it may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Wood ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against River City, sneaking past 6-5. The victory was some much needed relief for the Wildcats as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
The team relied heavily on Bryan Smith, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. He also put up an RBI, which was his first of the season. Tristan Drummond was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances.
Fairfield's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-3. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for Wood, their victory was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-3 and their overall record up to 3-7.
