Basketball Recap: Make It Two in a Row for Coastal Academy

Coastal Academy won the last time they faced High Tech Mesa, and Heiress Afalava did her part to make sure it happened again. The Coastal Academy Stingrays escaped with a win on Tuesday against the High Tech Mesa Thunder by the margin of a single free throw, 36-35 thanks in part to Afalava, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 18 rebounds. She has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 24 times she's played.

Another player making a difference was Rachel Garland, who posted two points and six steals. Those steals marked the first that she's grabbed this season.

The victory made it two in a row for Coastal Academy and bumps their season record up to 7-5. As for High Tech Mesa, they have also traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-3 record this season.

Coastal Academy and High Tech Mesa's offenses will be put to the test in their next games. Coastal Academy and Mountain Empire (who has only given up 18.5 points per game) will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Coastal Academy: 24.8, High Tech Mesa: 25.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, High Tech Mesa will face off against Bonsall on Tuesday, a squad that's only allowed 29.5 points per game.
