If the Mendez Jaguars were feeling good off their 39-7 takedown of the Belmont Sentinels last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Mendez fell 39-26 to Bernstein on Friday. The result was an unpleasant reminder to Mendez of the 50-39 loss they experienced in the two teams' previous head-to-head fixture back in November of 2023.
Odali Rivera continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Bernstein, scoring 23 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which Rivera has scored at least a third of Bernstein's points. Another player making a difference was Marlin Mendez, who scored six points.
Mendez's loss dropped their record down to 5-7. As for Bernstein, they pushed their record up to 14-7 with that victory, which was their fourth straight on the road.
Mendez will face off against Hollywood at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few points on average, (Hollywood: 29.5, Mendez: 29.2) so any points scored will be well earned. Bernstein won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Grand Terrace at 1:30 p.m. on January 20th. Hopefully Grand Terrace focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Friday.
