The Meyersdale Red Raiders lost against the Northern Huskies back in December of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The contest between the two teams wasn't particularly close, with Meyersdale falling 43-25. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 523rd in Pennsylvania, while Northern is ranked 112th in Maryland).
When it comes to explaining why Meyersdale lost, one person who can't be blamed is Laurel Daniels. Despite the final result, she scored eight points along with two steals.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Northern to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaylee Bowser, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds and four steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Lydia Nelson, who scored 15 points along with two steals.
Meyersdale has been struggling recently, as they've lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-8 record this season. As for Northern, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 7-3 record this season.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Meyersdale will stay at home for another game and welcome Windber at 6:00 p.m. on January 15th. Windber is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Northern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Southern at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Southern will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.
