The Victory Christian Academy Knights waltzed into their match on Friday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Chula Vista 50-36. Given Victory Christian Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 193rd, while the Spartans are ranked 908th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Mai'ana Norita continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, almost dropping a double-double on 31 points and nine steals. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Victory Christian Academy's points. Kami Demara was another key contributor, scoring 14 points along with six rebounds and four steals.
Chula Vista's loss came despite strong showings from Malissa Mckoy and Ta'mya Lewis. Mckoy almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine rebounds, while Lewis scored eight points along with 17 rebounds. Mckoy is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played.
Victory Christian Academy has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 15-5 record this season. As for Chula Vista, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Victory Christian Academy will take on the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Olympian is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 56.3 points per game this season. As for Chula Vista, they will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cougars at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. San Ysidro comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
