York Prep has been on the road for two straight, but on Friday they'll finally head home. Having just played yesterday, they will get right back to it and host the Cheraw Braves at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.
York Prep suffered their biggest loss yet this season on Thursday. They were dealt a 96-27 defeat at the hands of Andrew Jackson. York Prep was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 65-14.
Meanwhile, Cheraw's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Tuesday after their third straight loss. They were beaten by Andrew Jackson 66-27. While losing is never fun, Cheraw can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while Andrew Jackson is ranked 27th).
Despite the defeat, Cheraw had strong showings from Sa'Nya Murray, who scored nine points, and Ryquel Brown, who scored two points.
York Prep now has a losing record at 7-8. As for Cheraw, their loss dropped their record down to 9-9.
York Prep came out on top in a nail-biter against Cheraw when the teams last played back in December of 2023, sneaking past 50-48. Will York Prep repeat their success, or does Cheraw have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
