The Escalon Cougars will head out on the road to square off against the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Escalon lost 11-1 to Bear Creek on Thursday.
Escalon got a good showing from Zach Wells, who pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave Wells a new career-low.
At the plate, Escalon saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Brody Abbott, who went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, Hughson had already won ten in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.1 runs) and they went ahead and made it 11 on Monday. They put the hurt on the Knights with a sharp 10-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Huskies, who have now won ten games by six runs or more so far this season.
Gavin Gomez looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. He has been consistent : he hasn't given up a single earned run in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Beau Blake was incredible, firing off two home runs, three RBI, and one double while going 4-for-4. Those two home runs gave him a new career-high. Andrew Fisher was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Hughson kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 14 hits in three consecutive contests.
Hughson's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-2. Those home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Escalon, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-7.
Escalon came out on top in a nail-biter against Hughson when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. Do the Cougars have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
