The Amundsen Vikings scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Chicago Academy as Amundsen made off with a 72-48 victory. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Amundsen has posted yet this season.
Amundsen's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Connor Fortier led the charge by dropping a double-double on 12 points and 13 rebounds. Fortier is absolutely dominating the rebound category: he's posted at least eight every time he's taken the court this season. Nour Mohammad was another key contributor, scoring 12 points along with four steals.
Despite the loss, Chicago Academy still got an impressive performance from Isaiah Cortez, who scored 32 points along with five rebounds and four steals. That was a full 66.7% of Chicago Academy's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Amundsen's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 5-8. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.3 points per game. As for Chicago Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.
Amundsen will head out on the road to square off against Lake View at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Lake View knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past six matchups -- so hopefully Amundsen likes a good challenge. As for Chicago Academy, they will be playing at home against Senn at 4:30 p.m. on Friday.
