The Foothill Knights's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Brea Olinda, falling 73-44. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Foothill in their matchups with Brea Olinda: they've now lost six in a row.
Elize McAveney and Paige Bak certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. McAveney scored 19 points along with three steals, while Bak scored 12 points along with nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Bak has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jay Perez, who scored three points along with 14 rebounds.
Maya Sanborn was the offensive standout of the contest as she scored 17 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Penelope Martinez, who scored 11 points.
Foothill has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost eight of their last nine matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-17 record this season. As for Brea Olinda, their win bumped their record up to 8-16.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Foothill will take on Esperanza at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Esperanza is coming into the match hot, having won their last five games. As for Brea Olinda, they will head out on the road to challenge El Dorado at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. El Dorado presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Brea Olinda in California (El Dorado is ranked 77th, while Brea Olinda is ranked 342nd).
