The Classical Academy Caimans are taking a road trip to square off against the Morse Tigers at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Classical Academy is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. Everything went their way against St. Joseph Academy on Tuesday as Classical Academy made off with a 19-4 victory. The team's explosion at the plate also rewarded the Caimans with their most commanding win of the season.
Gezylah Key made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Key was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Sophia Miller, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Isabel Johnson, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Classical Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Morse made easy work of Fallbrook on Wednesday and carried off a 12-1 win. The result was nothing new for the Tigers, who have now won three matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.
Like Classical Academy, Morse also got a great game from a two-way player: Alyssa Truby. She didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. Truby was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with one home run and six RBI.
In other batting news, Abby Okita was excellent, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3. Thaliamia Richards also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Classical Academy is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. The win got Morse back to even at 4-4.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Friday as neither team is afraid to steal. Classical Academy has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Morse struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.4 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Classical Academy suffered a grim 9-1 defeat to Morse when the teams last played back in March of 2016. Can Classical Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
