Douglas won against Amphitheater on Tuesday with 25 runs and they decided to stick to that run total again on Thursday. The Bulldogs didn't even let the Panthers on the board, marking the Bulldogs' second-straight 25-0 shutout. The result was nothing new for the Bulldogs, who have now won nine matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Trase Rodriguez and Diego Duarte made a big impact while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Rodriguez struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). Meanwhile, Duarte tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March of 2025. At bat, Rodriguez went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI, while Duarte went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. Rodriguez is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.
In other batting news, Douglas got a massive performance out of Dylan Valenzuela, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with four runs and one RBI. Valenzuela continues to improve, besting his previous run total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jose Ivan Higuera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Douglas hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in four consecutive games.
Douglas pushed their record up to 16-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Amphitheater, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.
Looking ahead, Douglas will be playing in front of their home fans against ALA - Gilbert North at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Bulldogs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 9 runs per game this season. As for Amphitheater, they are taking a road trip to square off against Sahuarita at 6:00 p.m. on Monday.
