Super Bowl LIX
takes place Sunday in New Orleans at Caesars Superdome as the Kansas City
Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles. In terms of tracking
where this year's participants played high school football, Florida has
the most players featured with 14.
Gardner-Johnson and Taylor were teammates at
Cocoa and both graduated in 2016.
Ricks
played with
Nikko Remigio at Mater Dei before transferring to IMG
Academy for his senior season. In 2017, they helped the Monarchs go
wire-to-wire as the No. 1 team in the MaxPreps Top 25 and did not trail
at any point in the season.
This
will be the fifth Super Bowl that features starting quarterbacks from
the same state joining Super Bowl XIX (Joe Montana/Dan Marino), Super
Bowl XXV (Jeff Hostetler/Jim Kelly), Super Bowl LIII (Tom Brady/Jared
Goff) and Super Bowl LVII (Mahomes/Hurts).
Super
Bowl III also featured two quarterbacks from the same state when Joe
Namath faced Johnny Unitas but Unitas did not start. He replaced Earl
Morrall in the third quarter and led the Colts on their only scoring drive of the game.
In total, 31 different states have at least one player included in Super Bowl LIX.
