The St. Bede Bruins will square off against the Briarcrest Christian Saints at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
St. Bede fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Alleman on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pioneers. The defeat was just more heartbreak for the Bruins, who fell 5-3 when the teams last met back in May of 2019.
Geno Dinges was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Dinges wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Maks Baker, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Briarcrest Christian was a bit more limited in their matchup on Monday. They fell just short of Lincoln-Way East by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Saints have suffered since March 16th.
Cole Photopulos was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one home run and two RBI. Noah Abney also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Briarcrest Christian moved to 10-9 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak. As for St. Bede, their record is now 3-2.
Tuesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Bede has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .504. However, it's not like Briarcrest Christian struggles in that department as they've averaged .455. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
