Mt. Pleasant dropped their record down to 15-7 on Thursday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins at home. They lost 12-6 to the Silver Creek Raiders. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Cardinals have suffered since April 17th.
Michael Blanco was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching six innings while giving up three earned (and five unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Bryan Lopez Rodriguez and Julian Saldana stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lopez Rodriguez went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Saldana went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.
As for Silver Creek, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 20-4. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 8.4 runs.
Like Mt. Pleasant, Silver Creek also got a great game from a two-way player: Giovanni Mejia. On the mound, Mejia pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Cayleb Duran tossed 5.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off ten hits. At bat, Mejia went 2-for-4 with two runs and one RBI, while Duran went 4-for-5 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Those four RBI gave Duran a new career-high.
In other batting news, Silver Creek got a big performance out of Noah Medina, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Those four hits gave Medina a new career-high. Iverson Alvernaz also deserves some recognition as he got his first hits of the season.
Looking ahead, Mt. Pleasant will face off against James Lick at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Cardinals are facing the Comets at the right time seeing as the Comets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Silver Creek, they will square off against Aptos at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
