Raymond Central is 2-8 against Freeman since August of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Mustangs will venture away from home to take on the Falcons at 6:30 p.m. Raymond Central is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.3 runs per game this season.
Platteview hit Raymond Central with a four-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs fell just short of the Trojans by a score of 9-8.
Tess Roubal spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 12 Ks.
On the hitting side, Makenna Hellerich made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Maja Matulka was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Freeman let Wahoo stack four runs on them in the second inning on Monday but luckily Freeman prevailed anyway. The Falcons had just enough and edged out the Warriors 7-6.
Sydney Lenners was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and three unearned) runs off eight hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Lenners wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kaylie Beu, who went 2-for-4 with two runs. Hunter Haner also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Freeman kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in five consecutive matchups.
Freeman is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 18-11 record this season. As for Raymond Central, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-12.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Raymond Central hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .314. However, it's not like Freeman struggles in that department as they've averaged .367. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Raymond Central might still be hurting after the 8-2 loss they got from Freeman in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Can the Mustangs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
