After flying high against the Christian Patriots last Wednesday, the San Diego Cavers came back down to earth. San Diego fell just short of Vista by a score of 48-46. While losing is never fun, San Diego can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 344th, while Vista is ranked 50th).
When it comes to explaining why San Diego lost on Thursday, one person who can't be blamed is Mackenzie Nitzel. Despite the final result, she dropped a double-double on 12 points and 22 rebounds. Nitzel is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Lara Saucedo, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds.
San Diego's defeat dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Vista, the victory for they keeps them at an undefeated 6-0.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. San Diego will take on Holtville at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Vista, they will look to defend their home court on Friday against Valley Center at 7:00 p.m.
