The Lugoff-Elgin Demons pushed their score all the way to 55 on Monday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell to Trinity Collegiate 61-55. Lugoff-Elgin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Lugoff-Elgin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nigel Chivers, who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds. Chivers hasn't dropped below 15points for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Braylen Mumford, who scored 14 points.
Even though they lost, Lugoff-Elgin smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Trinity Collegiate only pulled down two offensive rebounds.
Trinity Collegiate's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jae Thomas led the charge by scoring 19 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. Thomas is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Landon Wilson, who scored 12 points along with four steals.
Lugoff-Elgin has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-10 record this season. As for Trinity Collegiate, the win makes it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-6.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lugoff-Elgin will take on Westwood at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Westwood will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak. Trinity Collegiate will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against First Baptist School at 6:00 p.m. on January 16th. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in South Carolina (First Baptist School is ranked 123rd, while Trinity Collegiate is ranked 107th).
