The Cleveland Cavaliers's five-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Verdugo Hills as Cleveland made off with a 55-33 win. The score was close at the half, but Cleveland pulled away in the second half with 29 points.
It was another big night for Valerie Anzora, who dropped a triple-double on 11 points, 14 rebounds, and 10 steals. Anzora is absolutely dominating the rebound category: she's posted at least eight every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabriella Calderon, who scored 14 points along with 6 assists.
Despite the defeat, Verdugo Hills saw an underclassman step up: Amiyya Castanos scored 15 points along with 4 steals. Castanos scored a full 45.5% of Verdugo Hills' points, the fourth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jezell Abdalnour, who scored 6 points along with 5 rebounds.
Cleveland's victory bumped their record up to 2-5. As for Verdugo Hills, their loss dropped their record down to 4-3.
Cleveland and Santa Paula will face off at 11:00 a.m. on December 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Santa Paula is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak. Verdugo Hills is on the road again on Friday and play against Poly at 7:00 p.m. on December 8th. Hopefully Poly focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Monday.
