The Golden West Trailblazers lost against the Porterville Panthers back in January, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Golden West took a 50-37 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. Golden West has struggled against the Panthers recently, as their game on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Golden West's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Aniyah Venegas, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds, and Danae Banuelos who scored 12 points along with six steals.
Porterville found their leader in underclassman Ryleigh Schoonover, who dropped a double-double on 35 points and 22 rebounds. That makes it nine consecutive games in which Schoonover has scored at least a third of Porterville's points. Another player making a difference was Sare Ortiz, who scored nine points along with seven assists and five rebounds.
Golden West has not been sharp recently as the team's lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 9-18 record this season. As for Porterville, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-9.
Golden West will head out on the road to square off against the Rangers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Redwood is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak. As for Porterville, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Miners at 7:30 p.m. El Diamante knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with flashy point totals in its past five games -- so hopefully the Panthers like a good challenge.
