Bishop Diego and Cate are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2016, but not for long. The Bishop Diego Cardinals will be playing in front of their home fans against the Cate Rams at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Thursday, Bishop Diego beat Santa Clara 45-32. Given Bishop Diego's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 399th, while Santa Clara is ranked 1096th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Bishop Diego's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Diana Mendez, who scored 11 points. Mendez continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Jiali Coronado, who scored 12 points.
Cate posted their closest win yet this season on Tuesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Santa Clara and snuck past 31-29. The score was all tied up 12-12 at the break, but Cate was the better team in the second half.
Bishop Diego has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight matches, which somehow isn't as good as their 18-4 record this season. As for Cate, their win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 7-5.
Bishop Diego strolled past Cate in their previous meeting last Saturday by a score of 34-18. Will Bishop Diego repeat their success, or does Cate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
