Basehor-Linwood extended their postseason success on Friday against St. James Academy. They walked away with a 28-20 victory over the Thunder. The Bobcats' win was nothing new given the team hasn't lost yet this season.
Gavin Mitchell had another great game (as he tends to do), rushing for 206 yards and a pair of scores. Those 206 rushing yards gave him a new career-high. Basehor-Linwood also got a significant boost from Carson Dixon, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 90 yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Basehor-Linwood was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 309 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.
Basehor-Linwood didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Ty Darting, Jacob Sharp, and Lex Stanion picked up one apiece. Sharp has been hot for a while, having also posted five or more total tackles the last 17 times he's played. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.
St. James Academy lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Cory Kirchner, who picked up 76 receiving yards and two touchdowns. The team also got some help courtesy of Alec Jett, who picked up 133 receiving yards and one TD.
Basehor-Linwood's victory bumped their record up to 12-0. As for St. James Academy, they moved to 10-2 with that defeat, which also ended their nine-game winning streak.
