The Chester Volcanoes will be staying on the road on Tuesday to face off against the Loyalton Grizzlies at 5:30 p.m. on December 19th. Hopefully Chester is not getting complacent, as they presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Loyalton in California (Chester is ranked 282nd, while Loyalton is ranked 850th).
Even though Chester has not done well against Burney recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Chester managed a 42-38 win over Burney.
Meanwhile, Loyalton had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They really took it to Paradise Adventist Academy for the full four quarters, racking up a 69-21 win on the road. Loyalton's offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Loyalton to victory, but perhaps none more so than Catherine Petterson, who scored 19 points along with eight steals and three blocks. Petterson is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sophie Holland, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and three steals.
Chester's record now sits at 6-1. Loyalton's record now sits at 3-6.
Chester lost to Loyalton on the road by a decisive 46-28 margin when the teams last played back in January of 2022. Can Chester avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
